Community Outreach

Audubon’s Community Relations Program helps underserved community members enjoy the benefits of Audubon’s living science museums and parks. A number of events at Audubon facilities helped advance this effort, including the annual Zulu Lundi Gras celebration at Woldenberg Riverfront Park and many events at the Zoo like Stomp the Zoo during Black History Month celebrations, the Asian Pacific American Society Festival, Soul Fest and Boo at the Zoo.

Audubon’s Community Relations Program is sponsored by HCA: The Healthcare Company with additional project support from the Institute of Museum & Library Services. Among its many directives, this program strives to increase business opportunities for women and disadvantaged business enterprises. In 2008, these purchases accounted for nearly $4,000,000, an increase of 16 percent over 2007’s total.  New, stronger policies will help ensure that the program continues to gain momentum throughout 2009.
