Has it really been two years? It feels like only yesterday that I moved down here to be a part of the opening of this wonderful facility and now, this past weekend we celebrated our second “Ant-iversary”!

I have to admit I think this one was more fun than our first and if the trend continues I can’t wait until next year! We had face painters, a balloon artist, wonderful crafts, and even Spiderman and Hugo the hornet joined in! The excitement even reached those on the street bringing in curious tourists who had no idea what was going on.
Our normal presentation areas highlighted the lifespan of insects and their relatives – showing both the shortest and the longest lived individuals in our collections. Bug Appétit offered up special food prizes in the form of bug shaped cookies for those brave enough to try multiple insect dishes. There was also the obligatory Ant-iversary cake which was filled with crickets and sprinkled with wax worms (caterpillars).
I think everyone had a fantastic time – both guests and staff. It was an amazing event. I am honored and proud to have been a part of this amazing facility for the last two years and hope to see us grow for many more!
