AAOA Lundi Gras

Right about now we are in full gear and ready to roll with all the excitement happening during Mardi Gras. The annual Lundi Gras event will be right on the Aquarium and IMAX Plaza. And guess who has a special Monday opening on Lundi Gras!? Yes, you guessed it Audubon Aquarium. But that’s not our only venue open. All Audubon attractions are open this Monday! The kids are out of school and you need something to do. Why not visit the Zoo and roam around with the lions, bears and gators. Jean and Panya may just toss you a bead if you visit them in the Asian Domain.  If you’re an eager beaver and want the best spot for your family on the Kohlmeyer Lawn, then head on down to The Zulu Lundi Gras celebration. This is a great fun family event that the kids will truly enjoy. This event has face painting that all children enjoy and the Zulu characters are very friendly and love taking pictures with the kids. There’s lots of open space for families to play and enjoy the music. And the best part is that the Aquarium is right there!  Take a minute and go inside to experience the wonderful exhibits and then sneak away to nice clean bathrooms for the kids! Bells are ringing glorious songs are playing AHHHHH! Yes, I’m a mom and we truly seek these out as if we are Indiana Jones searching for the lost ark. And after you find and relish in that lost ark you can then go back out to the celebration.  It’s such a great day to hang with the family, bring your cooler and blanket and enjoy everything right by the Aquarium. The children’s tent has all kinds of activities for the kids to take pleasure in. The defining moment of the day will be the arrival of King Zulu and his Queen. For the first time during the celebration there will be and fly over of the US Marines aerial fleet the MV-22 Osprey to commemorate their arrival.  Layback and enjoy the show the fireworks will light the sky! And at the spur of the moment you’ll grab a napkin swing it around and sing…

(Uuh!)
Down in New Orleans
Where the blues was born
It takes a cool cat
To blow a horn
On LaSalle and Rampart Street
The combo's there with a mambo beat

The Mardi Gras, mambo, mambo, mambo
Party Gras, pambo, mambo, mambo
Mardi Gras, mambo-ooh
Down in New Orleans
