It’s SOOOULLLL FEST time! Yes, it’s festival season for Audubon. We’re kicking into high gear and once we get into our fun loving festival routine it’s hard for us to stop. So ladies and gentlemen this is no time to slow down it’s all about rolling with the fun! This weekend come out to the annual Soul Fest event that highlights African American culture, food and music. We’ve got some great bands performing this weekend. On Saturday, we’ve got Jazz with the Thelonious Monk Institute, the soul sounds of Michael "Soulman" Baptiste and closing out will be a big brass performance by Kermit Ruffins. On Sunday, we’ll keep you jamming to the music with the R&B sounds of BRW, my girl Gina Brown and groove with Chocolate Milk! On the stage to keep the crowd dancing will be DJ Ice T on Saturday and DJ Captain Charles on Sunday. I love our local artists and our line-up is top notch. Another big factor that many locals consider when attending festivals is, of course, the food. Let me not forget to mention all the great soul FOOD! Where should I begin?! We’ll have BBQ Ribs, Fried Fish, Shrimp Po-Boys, Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Pulled Pork Po-Boys, Craw Dat Po-Boys, Seafood Gumbo, Baked Chicken, Shrimp Pasta, Turkey Legs, Mustard Greens, Candied Yams, whew and that’s not even half of the food we’ll have for sale! If you’ve got a sweet tooth like me save some room for Ooey Gooey Cake - ooohwee my favorite, Sweet Potato Pie, Pralines, Cinnamon Pecans and Honey Cinnamon Cashews. Yum yum yummy. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it! So you know what you have to do this weekend right!? Yep come on out to Soul Fest at Audubon Zoo!
