Re-use, Re-cycle, Re-new
We are officially in full swing of our festival season. The weather has been amazingly beautiful! Last weekend we had such a good time hanging out at Soul Fest we’re going to do it all again this weekend for Earth Fest at Audubon Zoo! This year we have all kinds of great activities for families. I have some big super hero fans in my family and this Saturday the Marvel Heroes will be here performing their Operation Green show. This is going to be the coolest show ever! You’re excited about who’s coming and so am I. It’s going to be Spider-Man, Green Goblin, Captain America and Iron Man! They’re joining forces for the operation green show to teach about the importance of recycling and ways to conserve energy. This is going to be an exciting show. But this is only part of what we’ll have happening at the zoo this weekend. We’ve got an Earth Quest game that you’ll kids will have a ball with and win prizes. You’ll have to get the questions from our exhibitors in the festival area and put your thinking caps on so you can win a prize. You’ll be dancing around doing your Quest game because the music will be jamming on the Capital One stage all weekend. On Saturday in between the super hero show we’ll hear The Flavors of New Orleans and Los Po-Boy-Citos. On Sunday we’ll showcase the winners of the 2010 Ronald McDonald House Crescent City Talent Show, hear music from Kayla Woodson & Louisiana Lightnin’ plus The Creole String Beans performing live. And get this we have a festival within a festival because it’s the New Orleans Book Festival on Saturday! This is such a great festival, with book signings and book giveaways. Knowledge is power and reading rocks! We’re going to have great food by local vendors and handmade crafts available for purchase. Also on sale by our very own education team will be coffee that is made with conservation in mind, when you see the staff ask them how. All sales of the coffee benefit Audubon Zoo’s Conservation Education programs, which include teaching materials, small grants and partnerships in South America and Africa. We’re going green and it’ll take all of us to help sustain our environment. A great way you can start is by bringing in your old cell phone to be properly recycled or turn in a dozen Mardi Gras beads and you’ll get a discount on admission to the zoo during Earth Fest! It’s going to be a great weekend of fun family time at the festival, come out and join us!
