Swamp Fest

There’s going to be a knee slappin,’ toe tappin’ Cajun dance going on this weekend at Audubon Zoo for the Louisiana Swamp Festival. This Saturday and Sunday we’re going to have the best of Cajun, Zydeco and Country music! You can also check out some great hands-on animal shows, chats and feedings. During Swamp Fest be sure to make your way over to the Louisiana Swamp Exhibit where the biggest crowd pleaser of the day is the Lagoon Alligator feeding at 3:00pm. Alligators hibernate for the winter and this will be the last gator feeding of the year. Our brave zookeepers stand out on the lagoon bank within mere feet from the gators mighty jaws. It’s a sight to see as the alligators snap and swing their tails! Once you’ve had a taste of the Swamp Exhibit head over to the Capital One Stage aka the Performance Pavilion for all the live entertainment. We’ll have great music and entertainment by Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas, and the Pine Leaf Boys and other great artists.  At the Swamp Exhibit stage, you can learn how to Cajun two step and jitterbug  with Lori and Glenn and put the lessons to good use when Lafourche Cajun Band, Hot Sauce Cajun Band and other great acts perform!  In between all your dancing you’re going to need some delicious Cajun food. We’ve got specialty foods that you just can’t find at any ol’ eatery. Out at the fest be sure to try Alligator Sausage on a stick, Cochon de Lait poboy, Soft shell crab po-boys, and new this year is a menu of not-so-usual fried foods; have you eaten a fried Oreo? Come and try it and other items that will most certainly pique your interest. Swamp Fest always brings unique things for visitors to explore, and the craft vendors have some of the best one- -of-a- kind items to buy. You may even find that perfect holiday gift for the person who has everything. This weekend at Audubon Zoo we’ll have great entertainment, delicious food, wonderful craft items and you can even learn a new zydeco dance. OOOOH WEEEE, mon cher grab 'dat family for a Fais-do-do and c’mon down to the Lou-weezie-anna Swamp Fest at Audubon Zoo!
