Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium Celebrates Volunteer Appreciation Week
By: Gillian, Volunteer Manager, Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas
This past week the Volunteer Department and all of the staff at Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium celebrated Volunteer Appreciation Week. Being a smaller facility within the Audubon family we do not have a very large number of volunteers, but the ones that we do have help in a great way to keep our facility running. In the 2012 year our volunteers gave over 3000 hours in service. That's awesome! When we equate that time to compensation, the volunteers donated over $67,000 in service. WOW! We just could not do it without our volunteers.
We kicked things off this year with our annual appreciation party. This is a time when staff and volunteers can get all dolled up, eat great food, and dance the night away. Then, during the week of appreciation our volunteers are awarded service hour pins and prizes. Not to mention non-stop THANK YOUs from the staff.
At the Insectarium we have a few high numbers. Because we have only been opened for just under five years I am excited at watching these numbers grow as the facility grows. Bill Rochel was our leader. He has clocked in over 1500 hours of service in his time here. Ben Rauch follows him closely with over 1100 total hours of service.
We are always looking for new volunteers to help at the Butterfly Garden and Insectarium. If you are interested in joining our team please click here. If you have any questions about the programs we offer at the Insectarium please email me. You can also give the Volunteer Department a call at 504-587-2116.
