Aquarium Husbandry Intern
Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is looking for applicants for our internship program within the Animal Husbandry department. The Aquarium offers internships each year in the spring (January- April), summer (May- August), and fall (September- December).
Each position will expand the applicant’s knowledge of aquatic ecosystems and water chemistry to better understand the science of replicating a natural environment and caring for animals in a captive setting. Aquarium internships also include interaction with Aquarium visitors and opportunities for educational presentations. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, physically capable, and willing to participate in the generally wet and dirty work needed to meet the demands of our diverse collection. Internships require 30-40 hours per week from 7 am to 3 pm. This is an unpaid position.
- Marine or Freshwater Aquaria—assisting aquarists in the care of the fish, reptiles and invertebrates that comprise our Mississippi, Amazon, Caribbean, and Seahorse Galleries.
- Aviculture—assisting in the daily care of our extensive collection of birds including penguins, macaws, hawks, and owls.
- Water Quality—working within our water chemistry lab to help monitor and maintain the parameters necessary for optimal animal health.
- Audubon Aquatic Center—a position at our off-site holding and quarantine facility on the Westbank. This facility is not open to the public and contains various species of fish and reptiles.
