Audubon Zoo in New Orleans is seeking dedicated intern applicants for Spring 2015 (Feb-May) in the Asian Domain.  Interns will gain valuable exotic animal care experience working alongside keeper staff with a variety of animals including Amur leopards, Malayan sun bears, Babirusa pigs, and Asian small-clawed otters.

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Basic animal husbandry (diet preparation, enclosure cleaning and maintenance, etc
  • Basic behavioral observation
  • Enrichment design and implementation
  • Record keeping
  • Public talks with keepers


  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be willing to work at least 4 days/week (32 hours) for 12 weeks, including holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able and willing to work with repetitive physical exertion including bending/crouching, standing for extended periods of time, and pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying heavy objects (50 lbs).
  • Must be able and willing to work in all types of weather.
  • Must be able to quickly and clearly communicate with staff and other volunteers.
  • Must have good public speaking skills and be comfortable interacting with guests.
  • Must have current proof of a negative TB test


Previous animal care experience and/or coursework in biology, ecology, animal science, or a related subject is preferred.
