About G.U.L.F.

 

Gulf United for Lasting Fisheries (G.U.L.F.), Audubon Nature Institute’s sustainable seafood project, is seeking an intern to assist with outreach programs, communications and research.G.U.L.F. was founded in 2012 from the need for a home-grown champion who understands and can advocate on behalf of Gulf fisheries and industry, to keep our seafood relevant in the marketplace.

 

Internship Description

Intern will be responsible for providing support to G.U.L.F. team in projects across the Gulf coast.  Work will take place primarily in New Orleans, but some travel opportunities may arise. A willingness to work with the public in a cheerful and engaging manner is key. Essential intern duties include but are not limited to:

  • Research on state fisheries across the Gulf of Mexico
  • Correspondence with management agencies and academic institutions to gather data needed for Marine Advancement Plans
  • Participation in outreach and education events
  • Write basic summaries on relevant fishery information
  • Synthesizing scientific information to a consumer level
  • Keeping up to date with publications on commercial fisheries in state waters

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Some college experience
  • Background in biology, marine science, fisheries, oceanography, environmental science, or related field
  • Experience in researching scientific information and data collection
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Available at least 15 hours per week, some weekend work required
