AquaVan

The AquaVan, sponsored by Chevron, offers educational programs featuring live aquatic or terrestrial animals and interactive hands-on displays for area school children grades PreK - 6th.  The AquaVan features a 30-45 minute interactive lesson for classroom sized audiences up to 30 people or a 60 minute assembly program for up to 100 students.  Schools must be within 1 hours drive time from Downtown New Orleans.

2009-2010 Programs include:

  • Marine Programming - Dive into the world of sea creatures and explore some of the habitats and animals inhabiting the world's seas. Get up close to find out how they move, eat and keep from getting eaten!
  • Rainforest Programming - Explore the different levels of a rainforest and find out what makes some animals especially suited for survival there. Home to nearly half the animal and plant species in the world, tropical rainforests are disappearing! Find out what we can do to help!
  • Freshwater Programming - Discover life in your own back yard and find out what animals are living in freshwater ponds and streams. Take a close look at how these animals may have lived right beneath your nose without being detected.
  • NEW! Invasive Species Programming (New program for 4th - 9th grade students) - There are aliens in Louisiana! These invaders aren't from another planet, but they are from another ecosystem. Learn what these animals are, why they are so much trouble and what we can do to keep them from taking over!
