Trip to the Zoo-Be Sun Safe!

Teachers can use documents from Audubon's Education Departments to enhance their students' experience while visiting on field trips.

Audubon Zoo's Education Department offers teachers great Life Science Resources:

  • Learning Kits for teachersEducational DVDs and Biofacts available for check out in our Betty Wisdom Resource Room. Please email the Zoo Education Department or call (504) 212-5378. 
  • Scope on a Rope, a hand-held microscope that plugs into a television, is also available for teachers. If interested in this unique educational tool, please email the Aquarium Education Department or call (504) 378-2675. 
  • Harry's Big Adventure is a great resource for teaching about insects. Peruse the Educator Center and make the world of insects come to life for your students—either in your classroom or at our traveling exhibit.
  • Field Trip Preparedness Workshops.

 

Coast to Classroom

Coast to Classroom, funded by NOAA through the Gulf of Mexico Alliance, is a live web-based class for 4th-12th grade students focusing on Gulf of Mexico habitats and the issues they face.  All classes will interact with an Aquarium Educator live via the Internet.

This exciting new program is $25 per session, and all you need is a computer, speakers and internet connection to participate!

Coast to Classroom topics include:

  • 4th - 8th grade - Habitat Identification
  • 9th - 12th grade students - Wetland & Coastal Conservation Restoration

Audubon offers many meeting spaces for teachers, non-profit organization, and for-profit groups that do not need Catering/Conference Services. A special price is available for teachers and non-profit organizations who are looking for a place to host a meeting or conference.

  • Nims Community Center
    The Nims Community Center can accommodate a group of up to 40 people. It has six table and numerous chairs available. It is located to the right of the Audubon Zoo front entrance near the John James Audubon statue and is accessible from the parking lot. Groups do not need to enter the Zoo to use this meeting space.
    Non-profit rates: $300 (8am - 5pm), $200 (after 5pm). 
    For-profit rates: $400 (8am - 5pm), $350 (after 5pm).

     

  • Dominion Multi-Purpose Room
    The Dominion Multi-Purpose room can accommodate a group of up to 48 people seated and 125 standing. The room has six tables and 48 chairs. It has a separate entrance to the right of the Zoo admittance gates.
    Non-profit rates: $200 (8am - 5pm), $175 (after 5pm). 
    For-profit rates: $350 (8am - 5pm), $300 (after 5pm).
     

 

  • Dominion Auditorium
    The Dominion Auditorium has seating for 97 people with a large projector screen available. It has a separate entrance to the right of the Zoo admittance gates.
    Non-profit rates: $200 (8am - 5pm), $175 (after 5pm). 
    For-profit rates: $350 (8am - 5pm), $300 (after 5pm).

 

 
  • Dominion Lawn
    The Dominion Lawn can accommodate 100 people. It has a separate entrance to the right of the Zoo admittance gates.
    Non-profit rates: $200 (8am - 5pm), $175 (after 5pm). 
    For-profit rates: $350 (8am - 5pm), $300 (after 5pm).

     

  • Nims Outdoor Classroom
    The Nims Outdoor Classroom can accommodate 60 people. It is an outdoor covered spot that has twelve picnic tables with benches for seating. It has a separate entrance to the right of the Zoo admittance gates.
    Non-profit rates: $300 (8am - 5pm), $200 (after 5pm). 
    For-profit rates: $400 (8am - 5pm), $350 (after 5pm).
