Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and Audubon Insectarium Seek Youth Volunteers
AUDUBON AQUARIUM OF THE AMERCIAS AND AUDUBON INSECTARIUM SEEK YOUTH VOLUNTEERS
Application Deadline is March 31, 2010
Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and Audubon Insectarium are accepting applications for the 2010-2011 season for youth volunteers. Teens interested in learning about the ocean and its residents or insects and their impact on our world are welcome to apply to be a part of the select team of AquaKid, AquaTeens or Junior Entomologist programs.
AquaKids and Junior Entomologists programsare year-long volunteer programs. AquaKids is for those 13 and 14 year olds and Junior Entomologists is for those in 9th through 12th grade. AquaTeens is only a summer long program and is for those 15 and 16 years old. Both programs foster an appreciation and respect for wildlife, and a lifetime commitment to improving the environment. These programs provide on the job training for teens interested in science, education and public relations. Space for this program is limited and participantsare selected through an application and interview process. There is a fee for the programs.
Participants become a link between guests and the collection of animals housed in each facility. They will learn how to interpret the galleries and use Bio-Facts to educate guests, get hands-on experience with animals as they work alongside Aquarium and Insectarium staff, and participate in field trips.
Are you 17 years or older? We haven’t forgotten about you. More than one million people visit the Aquarium and Insectarium each year. Volunteers of all ages have a chance to meet these visitors and help them enjoy their experience…sharing information, pointing out interesting animals, and answering questions to make their tour even better. Adult volunteers can work in a variety of capacities from talking to visitors to helping feed and care for the animals. And that’s no small task- the Aquarium has more than 15,000 animals representing 560 different species and the Insectarium represents over 900,000 different insects and their relatives.
