Audubon Nature Institute Happenings
April-June 2010
 
NEW ORLEANS –- Throughout April, May and June, Audubon Zoo (6500 Magazine St.), Audubon Aquarium of the Americas (1 Canal St.), Entergy IMAX® Theatre (1 Canal St.) and Audubon Insectarium (423 Canal St.) are open 10am to 5pm, Tuesday through Sunday. All attractions are closed on Mondays.
 
However, all attractions are open on April 5 for Easter Monday and May 31 for Memorial Day.
 
Audubon Zoo will close at 1pm on April 30 to prepare for Zoo to Do for Kids presentedby Humana. The Zoo will be closed all day on May 7 to prepare for Whitney Zoo to Do. Also, the Zoo will close at 2pm on June 9 to prepare for ZOObilation.
 
Audubon Golf Course is now open seven days a week, Monday – Sunday.
 
Don’t forget to visit Audubon’s Dinosaur Adventure at Audubon Zoo. This Dino Adventure is an exciting, multi-sensory journey into the world of creatures long extinct. Life-size and amazingly lifelike, dinosaurs lurk in every mysterious corner of the fully realized Jurassic landscape. Audubon’s Dinosaur Adventure is $2 for members and $4 for non-members (in addition to Zoo admission). Visit the website for details.

An Audubon Experience ticket includes admission to Audubon Zoo, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, Entergy IMAX© Theatre and Audubon Insectarium.

French Quarter Festival
Woldenberg Riverfront Park
April 9 - 11
French Quarter Festival main stages are in Woldenberg Park. French Quarter Festival features the best New Orleans musical performers, and is a great pre-curser to Jazz Fest. There are also smaller, intimate concerts at Woldenberg throughout the year. Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and Entergy IMAX® Theatre are both open during French Quarter Festival. Just down Canal Street, Audubon Insectarium will be open as well.
 
Adopt-An-Animal Party
Audubon Zoo
April 13
4pm – 7pm
Audubon Zoo animal parents who adopted between April 1, 2009, and March 31, 2010, will celebrate with up-close encounters and exhibit-side chats with experts who care for the animals. AUDUBON ZOO WILL CLOSE AT 3:30pm ON THIS DAY.

Zoo-To-Do for Kids is New Orleans’s premiere benefit event for children of all ages. Audubon Zoo is transformed into a magical play land filled with giant inflatables, live entertainment and complimentary food and libations to delight every palate. Audubon Zoo is elegant and offers a magical, moon-lit setting complete with nationally-recognized entertainment, breathtaking decorations, silent auction and Zoo-To-Do Luxury Vehicle Raffle. The finest cuisine from nearly one hundred local restaurants and libations from fifty beverage bars is a hallmark of Whitney Zoo-To-Do. Gala ticket prices are $195 per individual. Audubon Nature Institute members can take advantage of the “Early Bird” discounted tickets special until March 31. Audubon Aquarium of the Americas
This 800 square-foot tropical environment is home to hundreds of free-flying parakeets. Look for the new exhibit on the second floor near the food court, and step into a lush habitat that puts you in the center of all the activity.
For an even closer encounter, purchase a feed stick for $1 and let the colorful parakeets alight and enjoy a treat! Parakeets are bright and beautiful little birds showing off a vivid blend of yellow, blue and green feathers.
Parakeet Pointe will be open to adults and children, and entry is free with Aquarium admission.
 
ZOObilation

ZOObilation is an appreciation party for Audubon Members, featuring live music, kids activities and much more.This eventis a special invitation for Audubon Nature Institute member households to peek behind the scenes of their favorite Zoo. ZOObilation visitors enjoy opportunities not offered during regular public hours, such as tours of the elephant barn, visits to the animal hospital and a look at what goes on out of public view at the Louisiana Swamp Exhibit.

ZOO EDUCATION
 
Dinosaur Egg Hunt

$24 for member children collecting eggs, $32 for non-member children collecting eggs.

Our  Dinosaur Egg Hunt is an educational egg-hunt for the spring holidays that only the dinosaur lovers can fully appreciate. Kids will get to meet some dinosaur relatives, enjoy a snack, make a dinosaur craft and hunt for their own dinosaur eggs!  All registrants also get to enter the dinosaur exhibit and experience the real thing. This event is full of activities for the whole family!
 
Safari After Dark-Dinosaur Adventure

Have you ever wanted to camp out in the Zoo overnight and sleep next to life-size dinosaurs? Now's your chance! This educational event is for families (children under 5 may be too young for this activity) that want to experience the wonders of nature overnight with the brand new Audubon Dinosaur Adventure.

Have you ever wanted to camp out in the Zoo overnight and hear the roar of a lion at 5am in the morning? This is your last chance until the Fall. This educational event is for families (children under 5 may be too young for this activity) that want to experience the wonders of nature overnight with our African Safari.
 
 
Zoo Camp Begins

Zoo Camp at the Audubon Zoo is for children entering Pre-K through 4th grade in the fall of 2010. Choose a week at a time or a 4 week session. During the morning, children participate in more outdoor activities such as hiking through the zoo and playing at Monkey Hill. The afternoons are spent doing indoor activities. Due to the amount of campers and the complexity of group scheduling we cannot process requests for children to be placed in same groups.  Campers are placed in groups based on birthdates. Online registration begins March 1.
 
Zoo Explorers Camp
This is for children going into 5th through 7th grade that are interested in life sciences and interested in animals. Register on-line starting March 1, 2010.

Come explore the Aquarium or Insectarium this weekend, and participate in an educational scavenger hunt as you look for Easter Eggs planted throughout the facility. Prizes given to those who finish the hunt!
