SEAS THE DAY AND CELEBRATE A DOUBLE DECADE OF DISCOVERIES
WITH AUDUBON AQUARIUM OF THE AMERICAS
The fish and other critters are throwing a party September 4, 5, and 6!

It’s been twenty years since Audubon Aquarium of the Americas opened at the foot of Canal Street, breathing new life into downtown New Orleans. Such a momentous milestone warrants a fabulous party! Put on your party fins and flippers and help Audubon Aquarium celebrate its 20thbirthday in style on September 4, 5, and 6, 2010.

Official birthday Fish-tivities will be swimming all day long on Saturday, September 4, Sunday, September 5, and Monday, September 6. Join all the residents of the Aquarium for fun and excitement. Games, arts and crafts and giveaways are all included in the price of admission. The first 1,000 visitors each of these days will receive a commemorative gift with admission. Must be present/one per person.

Saturday, September 4, and Sunday, September 5, visitors will be welcomed to Audubon Aquarium by the Algiers Brass Band from 11am-3pm. There will be fun-filled activities for children of all ages. Get your favorite aquarium animal created by the balloon artist create one from 10am-1pm or have a fishy face painted on your face from 1pm-5pm. There will also be arts and crafts and puzzles by Audubon Aquarium’s education department. All finalists from the Fins and Grins Photo Contest will be on display.  Meet Boudreaux from the Zephyrs Baseball team from 10 am to Noon.

Then it’s time to really party at the official 20th birthday celebration on Monday, September 6, complete with party hats and birthday cupcakes by Hayley Johnson owner of Sweet (while supplies last). Get your picture taken with a very aquatic themed 9-tier birthday cake. Visitors will also enjoy the same fun with face painters, balloon artists, a roaming brass band as well as chance to meet Hugo the Hornets mascot from 10am-11am. It’s not an Audubon Aquarium event without Buck and Emma, the Southern sea otters, so a very special otter cake will be presented to them at 2pm.

Audubon Aquarium opened on the New Orleans riverfront on Labor Day, 1990 and since then, more than 20 million people have visited. Considered one of the finest aquariums, Audubon Aquarium houses more than 15,000 different animals representing some 560 species and features the aquatic environments of North, Central and South America. Popular exhibits include the rare white alligator, two playful Southern sea otters (Audubon Aquarium is only one of a handful of facilities in the U.S. to house these animals), a large and diverse collection of sharks, jellyfish, penguins and scores of other animals.

Audubon Aquarium of the Americas is located at 1 Canal Street in New Orleans and is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am till 5pm. The Aquarium and all other Audubon Nature Institute attractions will be open Monday, September 6th.
