Happy Birthday Audubon Sea Lions!

Happy Birthday!
Audubon Zoo Sea Lions Celebrate

June 22, 2011                                                                                                      New Orleans, LA

They are among the most popular animals at Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, and all three of them are celebrating birthdays in June.
Everyone is invited to say “Happy Birthday” to Katie, Lilli and Sushi, Audubon Zoo’s three California sea lions, at a special public show and celebration on Tuesday, June 28, at 1:30pm at the Zoo’s Sea Lion Pool.

There will be “cake” (frozen fish and cream cheese) and other surprises for the birthday girls.
Audubon Zoo’s collection of sea lions is arguably a bit long in the tooth. Outside of zoos, sea lions live to about 17 years of age. Katie is celebrating the big 3-0. Sushi is 25 and Lilli is 24. Attentive care from veterinarians and keepers gives sea lions in zoos an edge when it comes to longer life spans. Because of the timing of the breeding season, most sea lions are born late May to June.
Although not endangered, sea lions are popular zoo residents. Intelligent and engaging, they tell an important story about how humans and wildlife must co-exist. They are native to the waters off the California coast.
Audubon Zoo is located at 6500 Magazine Street in New Orleans. Admission is $14.95 for adults and $9.95 for children 2 – 12. Audubon members are admitted free of charge. Visit or call (504) 581-4629 for more information.
