Audubon Zoo and Irma Thomas
Celebrate 30th Anniversary Performance
Sunday, May 12, 2013

(New Orleans, La.) - Visitors to Audubon Zoo will take part in a milestone event as Grammy® Award-winner Irma Thomas marks her third decade as headliner for the annual Mother’s Day Celebration Presented by Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.

Mother’s Day at Audubon Zoo always draws big crowds, so non-members are urged to buy and print tickets online ahead of time. Guests with advance tickets can skip the lines.

Audubon Nature Institute members and all moms get in free for the full day of food, music and family fun that begins at 10 a.m.

Guests will have an opportunity to sign a giant card offering well wishes for Irma who will receive the gift on stage before she performs. Audience members are encouraged  to visit Audubon’s Facebook page to post photos, special messages or memories of Irma’s performances at Audubon Zoo over the years.

As part of the festivities, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen will offer $30 gift cards prizes in a register-to-win contest.

Music begins at 12:30 p.m. with the Washboard Chaz Blues Trio. A special tribute commemorating Irma’s 30 years at Audubon Zoo takes place at 2:15 p.m. right before she takes the Capital One Stage with her band, The Professionals.

Shop for jewelry at the craft tents and pick out something special for your mother.  A full menu including po-boys, plate lunches and desserts will be available for purchase so Mom doesn’t have to cook on her special day. Remember, no outside food or beverage is allowed at Audubon Zoo special events and festivals.

Arrive early and bring the swim suits and towels to enjoy Cool Zoo, a wild and wet splash park near the Endangered Species Carousel. Cool Zoo admission is $8 for non-members and $6 for members in addition to regular Zoo admission. For more information, visit www.Auduboninstitute.org or phone (504) 581-4629.
