AUDUBON ZOO AND IRMA THOMAS
CONTINUE A BELOVED MOTHER’S DAY TRADITION
Irma Sings, Moms Get Free Zoo Admission May 09, 2010
April 20, 2010 New Orleans, LA
Grammy Award-winner Irma Thomas headlines a Mother’s Day full of music, family, food and fun at Audubon Zoo, 6500 Magazine Street in New Orleans.
And best of all, Moms of all ages get into the Zoo free of charge
on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2009.
“Free admission for all moms on Mother’s Day is an Audubon Zoo tradition going back more than twenty years,” said Audubon Zoo Managing Director Larry Rivarde. “It’s a day full of warmth, as hundreds of families bring Mom to the Zoo for a celebration of togetherness.”
Visitors can purchase a special remembrance for Mom from jewelry makers and other artisans selling their creations on-site. Special treats such as stuffed peppers, pasta, baked chicken, hand dipped strawberries and more will be available for purchase so Mom doesn’t have to cook on her special day.
New this year, the Audubon Education Departments will sell Conservation Iced Coffee to benefit M-O-Ms – Missing Orangutan Mothers. The Wellcare RV will be on site with Medicare information and giveaways.
Beginning at 12:30pm, the Pfister Sisters entertain the crowd from the Capital One stage at the Zoo.
At 2:30pm, Irma Thomas and the Professionals take the stage in an emotion-filled performance, singing directly to the moms in the audience. Her concert is filled with personal anecdotes, old favorites and hot new hits.
Contributing sponsors include Home Depot and bestofneworleans.com.
