SSC Animal Department

 

Intern will gain valuable hands-on experience working with a variety of exotic and endangered animal species. The internship will emphasize husbandry of antelope, small and large cats, and two species of storks. Interns will gain experience in husbandry, enrichment, diet preparation, monitoring animal behavior, pen design and maintenance, and veterinary procedures as they relate to general animal care as well as assisted reproduction technology developed by our scientific staff. Interns must be able to work outdoors under adverse conditions (heat, rain, humidity and mosquitoes).

Must be 18 years of age and older. Internship is 12 weeks and require a 5 day per week (40hr) commitment. The care of animals is a job that takes place 7 days a week 365 days a year and interns will be required to work weekend days and holidays side-by-side with staff. These are unpaid internships but housing is available at no charge.
