Tales of Scales & Ales: How a Party Supports Species Survival

Audubon Aquarium of the Americas’ 4th Annual Scales & Ales Event

Humans and the destruction of their habitat threaten thousands of aquamarine species each year. At Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, we provide ongoing support and a safe environment for endangered species to live in and thrive. Scales & Ales is one of the premier things to do in New Orleans each year, and it benefits the ongoing conservation efforts and education programs at the aquarium.

Scales & Ales has raised $350,000 since 2010 for education and conservation efforts. Over 1 million people visit Audubon Aquarium of the Americans and Entergy Imax® Theatre each year. More than 150,000 field trip visitors visit Audubon Aquarium of the Americans and Entergy Imax® Theatre each year. 52,000 students receive hands-on learning each year through Audubon’s Aquavan outreach and programming. 226,300 visitors have been reached through Aquarium education programming. 265 Aquarium volunteers help to educate visitors, including 24 youth volunteers.

More than 6,800 fish are in the Aquarium’s collection, all responsibly collected or captive bred. 200 sea turtles and 4 dolphins have been rescued since 2010. Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program is the primary rehabilitation facility for sea turtle and marine mammal rescue in Louisiana. Over 50 lined seahorses were added through captive breeding in 2012. 85% of Gulf seafood is caught in Louisiana waters.

Join us at Scales & Ales on September 20, 2013. Tickets start at $45.
