Things To Do in New Orleans During the Super Bowl
When its fourth and one, the championship game is on the line and it all comes down to one play to decide Super Bowl XLVII. There’s no doubt football fans from around the country will be on the edge of their seats. Year after year, the Super Bowl is among the most watched programs in America. And when you watch it in person this year, there is no better backdrop to rival the excitement of a Super Bowl than the mystical city of New Orleans.
Steeped in rich, diverse culture, New Orleans offers something for just about everyone. There are countless things to do in New Orleans during the Super Bowl. For starters, be sure to explore the wonders of nature at Audubon Nature Institute, a network of attractions that bring in visitors from throughout the world. Audubon Zoo for example, is just a streetcar ride away from the Superdome where the Super Bowl will take place. You can see an exotic mix of animals from around the globe such as giraffes, flamingos, alligators, and more. There is also the award-winning Louisiana swamp exhibit, Jaguar Jungle, and the fun sea lion and elephant presentations.
In the heart of the French Quarter, just up the street from the Superdome, is the city’s famous Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, where Buck and Emma, a pair of sea otters will steal your heart. Next door is Entergy IMAX® Theatre, home to the largest IMAX screen in the Gulf South. The silver screen is more than five stories tall and features a special six-channel, multi-speaker sound system that will flood your senses. Don’t forget the world-renowned Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium too. During your visit, you can experience a serene, Asian-inspired garden come to life with fluttering butterflies.
The fun, however, doesn’t stop there. New Orleans is known for its majestic architecture and intangible allure. There’s magic in the air. Feel it for yourself as you explore other things to do in New Orleans during the Super Bowl like walk around the open air French Market. The market offers unique handcrafted items only found in New Orleans. From local art and music to clothes, hats, food, and keepsakes, the French Market is sure to pique your senses. Venture out a little father and the French Quarter also offers boutique shops almost everywhere you turn. Visit one of the Voodoo shops or check out a local cigar store that offers some of the freshest, most aromatic cigars around.
No visit to New Orleans is complete, however, without listening to New Orleans jazz. Music wafts out of nearly every bar and lounge in the French Quarter. But for a real sense of where it all began, check out Preservation Hall, one of the oldest jazz clubs in America. If you’d rather be outside, check out a scenic riverboat cruise on Mississippi River.
