Junior Volunteer Naturalist
![]() |
The Junior Naturalist program is a program developed for students entering the 10th-11th grades for the Fall of 2013. Participants will learn basic marine biology and conservation during an intensive week of training. These volunteers will then provide exhibit interpretation and utilize biofacts and other aids to educate aquarium visitors. During this time Junior Naturalists will develop important job and life skills, build self-confidence and earn service hours. Volunteers cultivate lasting experiences with their peers, adult volunteers, and aquarium staff. This program is a good way for you to "get your feet wet" and see if guiding is for you.
The Junior Naturalists program is open to students entering the 10th-11th grades that are enrolled in high school for the 2013-2014 school year. Applicants must demonstrate an eagerness for marine life and be able to work with people of all backgrounds and ages. A commitment of 200 hours over the months of June and July is required. These hours are earned by attending three days a week from 9:00am -3:30pm each of the three days. Shift availability will be determined based on departmental needs occurring Monday - Friday.
Requests for applications begin November 1, 2012. and must be received no later than March 1, 2013. Interviews for applicants with completed applications will take place in March. If accepted into the program volunteers are required to attend a half day orientation in May followed by a one week training course the first week of June.
We are no longer accepting applications for the 2013 school year.
